A hike full of lessons
I did something crazy... even for me! And it is such a reflection on how the work really works.. read to the end!
This story dates back to one of the first times I tried to be really brave, it was the 13th February 2021. I had just finished seeing a guy that was very adventurous and was starting to tap into the idea "what if I can have just as much fun on my own"...
I drove to this random hike in Gold Coast hinterlands, was shitting myself on the rocky dirt roads with my clean white car, got to the start of the hike and it says “this is a summit climb, experienced hikers only”
I chickened out. I didn’t feel like I had any of the right equipment to do something like that alone.
I remember being so defeated!
Fast forward 3 years later and I found myself by pure coincidence on this same hike again. I met some new friends recently who love hiking and I have been inviting more experiences into my life so when I get a message saying “do you want to do a sunrise hike?” My immediate answer is YES!….
“Oh, by that I mean we leave Sunday night for a Monday sunrise, that okay?”
The hesitation in my yes at that point.. I just hear myself think… you asked for this!!
So yep you bet, at 9pm I made the 2 hour drive to the hike, had a 45 min nap in my car to start the hike at 12.45am... it was one of those “I can’t believe this I’m doing this” moments
It was only the next day when the sun was out where I realised, this is the exact hike I was too scared to do all those years ago
It got me thinking... Bravery really is a muscle. It’s a muscle you build the more you use it. This is what I've learnt over and over and over again with clients over the years, it is if you want to change you need to learn how to implement the changes.
It's the saying if nothing changes nothing changes, but experiences like that make it absolutely true!
There is NO WAY I would be able to do this if I hadn't been working on myself every single day, using my bravery muscle, challenging myself and pushing myself to new limits every single day.
“Face your fears head on, do it over and over and over again. You might just find that the thing you’re scared of is the same thing that excites you the most”
